Sumathi Awards 2019

The Independent Television Media Network won many awards at the Sumathi Awards festival, the festival of the mini screen. It was the 24th Sumathi Awards Festival that was held on 24th of october 2019.
The award for the second place in the best television current affairs programme category was won by the Deputy General Manager of ITN’s news and current affairs division Shanuka Karunaratne and its Director India Weerakoon for the Sanhindiyawe Paalama programme Dinushi Dheerasinghe of the Independent Television Network won the third place in the best news reading category.
Sithara Kaluarachchi who presented the Enterprise Sri Lanka programme won the best television presenter’s Award while Chandima Premaratne of ITN bagged the award presented on behalf of the Best Television Magazine Programme for directing the Ulpatha programme. The ITN’s Pulsar Dare Venture produced by Chandana Almeida won the best Television Sports programme. Heshan Wasantha who directed the Narthanayen Nivaduwak programme won the award presented for the Best Children’s programme.
Meanwhile the Independent Television Network received another award for the Best Graphic Animator. It was Eranda Rupasinghe who received this Award for the Eth Pavura programme. The Best Upcoming teledrama actor’s award was bagged by Kalana Gunasekara who played the role of Priyantha in the Kumbiyo teledrama telecast by ITN while the Best Upcoming teledrama actress award was won by Kalani Dodanteenna who played a role in the Sahodaraya teledrama also telecast by ITN. The first merit Award was presented to Ureni Noshika who played the role of Hirunika in the Kumbiyo teledrama while the second merit award was won by Deepani Silva who acted in the Sanhinda teledrama telecast by ITN.
The Best Music Director Award was bagged by Kasun Kalhara who directed the music for the Sahodaraya teledrama telecast by ITN. The Sumathipala Memorial Award given once in a lifetime to an artiste was presented to Senior Veteran Actor Alexander Fernando and to Sumana Amarasinghe who had won the hearts of her cinema fans. Sumathi Chairman Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala and many distinguished guests graced the occasion.
Also Thisuri Yuwanika who acted in the Minigandela teledrama that aired on Sirasa TV won the Best Actress award. Uddhika Premarathne who also acted in the Minigandela teledrama was awarded as the best actor.
Aloso Nayomi Thakshila and Sumiran Gunasekara who are lead roles in the Neela Pabalu teledrama won the award for the most popular actress and actor awards.
Editor of the teledrama Thatha, Indika Jayawardene was awarded as the best teledrama editor.
Art Directors of Minigandela Dhammika Hewadhuwatta and Sarathchandra Jayawickrama won the award for the best Art Director of the year. Nalin Premathilaka won the award for the best casting in Minigandela. Lalith Rathnayake won the Best Screenplay award for the teledrama Thatha also aired on Sirasa TV.
Camera Director of the teledrama Thatha Sajith Weerapperuma won the award for the best Camera Director. Yashoda Rasaduni was awarded as the best supporting actress and Dasun Pathirana won the Best Supporting Actor award for their roles in Thatha.
Sineru Rathnayake won the award for the child star of the year for his role in the same drama. Teledrama Thatha was showered with awards as it won the best teledrama of the year.
Hemasiri Liyanage won the special award from the jury for his acting masterpiece in Thatha.
Moreover, News 1st Thilakshani Madhuwanthi won the award for best Investigative News Reporter at the 24th Sumathi Tele awards ceremony.
A subsidiary of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited AF Jones Exporters Ceylon (Private) Limited won the best commercial of the year for their flagship product “Ape The”.

The launch and auditions of Miss Sri Lanka 2020 were held successfully in a grade scale at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel recently. This collaborative effort of many dynamic individuals involved in the modelling industry has already created a revolutionary impact on the modelling industry. The guidance and leadership of Tharindu Lakshan who is the national director of the pageant must be applauded.
